Licenses and provenance

Every part keeps its own terms.

Atrinik is made from code, world data, media, and presentation material. One license does not automatically cover another part of the project.

The license map

Know which work you are using

Repository notices and per-file records remain authoritative. These labels explain the project’s main boundaries.

MIT

Website

The source code for atrinik.org is MIT licensed. That license covers the website, not every game package or authored asset it describes.

GPL-2.0-or-later

Classic software

The client, server, editor, libatrinik, and protocol software maintained together in atrinik/classic are GPL-2.0-or-later. Bundled maps, graphics, audio, fonts, and other authored assets can have their own exact terms.

Next-generation software

The independently released clean-room Go and Rust replacement foundations are MIT licensed. They remain separate from Classic and do not yet form a complete public download.

Authored content

Maps, archetypes, quests, writing, graphics, audio, and other authored world content use mixed licenses. Follow the notice attached to the specific file or collection.
