About Atrinik
One world. Two implementations.
Atrinik is an open-source cooperative role-playing world. Its maintained Classic game can be played today while a new engine and toolchain are being built in public.
Two paths through the same world
Playable history and a clean-room future
The two lines share a project and a setting, but they are separate implementations with different licenses and release readiness.
Path IPlayable and maintained
Classic
The current playable line is actively maintained in the unified atrinik/classic repository. Its client, server, editor, libatrinik, and protocol share one version, release notes stream, and coordinated artifact set under GPL-2.0-or-later.
- Current playable implementation
- One repository and supported 5.x release line
- GPL-2.0-or-later software
Path IIIn development
Next generation
The replacement is a set of independently released, clean-room, MIT-licensed Go and Rust foundations. They are developed in public, but do not yet form a complete public download or replace the playable Classic line.
- Clean-room Go and Rust implementation
- MIT-licensed software
- Not yet available as a complete game
Made in the open
A world cared for in public
Release ownership
Classic plans, source, issues, and releases share one repository and coordinated release train. The replacement foundations remain independently released, with each repository owning its code, license, release information, and technical documentation. Progress is measured by completed work and published releases, not launch promises.
Authored world
Maps, archetypes, stories, graphics, audio, and other authored content have mixed terms. Their licenses and attribution are handled per file or collection rather than inherited from either engine.
Service foundations
Signed publishing, protected rendezvous, and a static server directory have been implemented as foundations. Rollout and canonical public endpoints are still pending, so they are not advertised as live services.
